This harsh environment of Central Otago ...
... grows tough garden, landscaping and re-vegetation plants.
Our plants are all grown locally so have already adapted to the local environment, resulting in stronger growing and more resilient plants. Our plants are proven to thrive in areas where others may fail and die.

Ecosourcing
To help preserve the unique gene pool of the native plants of Otago, we grow ecosourced natives. Ecosourcing not only preserves irreplaceable genetic diversity, but may improve plant performance in tough conditions.
To learn more about our approach to ecosourcing, read our page here.
We have successfully transitioned our natives to 90% eco sourced over the past few years, and are aiming for 100% in the next 2 years.. If eco sourcing is essential for your project, please let us know.
Re-vegetation
Restoring the natural environment starts with planting. Correct plant choice forms a strong foundation for clean air, water, and habitat for wild insects and birds. We supply plants for re-vegetation projects that will improve our country not only for ourselves, but generations to come.
We try to use an ecologically informed approach to our revegetation projects. You can read our article on Ecological succession in Central Otago and its use in planting and conservation here.
Previously Shotover Garden Centre
Samantha and Kelvin began Springburn Nursery after selling the Shotover Garden Centre, which was Queenstown's local garden centre for over 30 years, and now the site of Bunnings Warehouse. Our goal now is to grow the best quality and value plants for the people of Central Otago and beyond. We also have goals for the success of the nursery to enable us to drive reforestation and revegetation projects on the adjacent land.
