Common/Maori name(s): BidibidĀ

Acaena saccaticupula is a compact matt forming evergreen groundcover growing up to 1m wide and 10cm high. Found growing naturally on mountain ranges in the south island. During winter and in areas of adequate moisture or shade, leaves are a blue grey colour. They turn an attractive shade of purple in summer to protect themselves from high levels of uv. White balls of flowers are held aloft on stems during summer. These flowers attract insects which in turn are predated by skinks. The flowers are following by spiky red seed balls in early autumn. Very tolerant of poor gravely soils and hot sun. Needs good drainage and full sun. Hardy to frosts.

Height of grade at sale: 15cm wide
